CCDC Update Regarding Coronavirus

Updated April 24, 2020

I trust this letter finds you safe, healthy, and focused on the Lord’s goodness during these challenging times. We appreciate your patience and support of the Calvary Child Development Center as we, like you, are continuing to respond to these unprecedented times. As Calvary Church prayerfully navigates the path forward, I want to inform you of matters relating to the Calvary Child Development Center.

We praise the Lord for His provision, which has allowed Calvary to continue paying CCDC staff despite the almost total loss of income since the center’s closure on March 16. We further want to thank the few of you who have continued to make payments despite difficult economic times. As is unfortunately the case for many churches, businesses, and other organizations throughout the world, Calvary is sadly unable at this time to continue on this path. The CCDC ministry is not currently sustainable given the uncertainty and economic impact created by the coronavirus. The leadership of Calvary Church is called to be good stewards of the Lord’s resources. Accordingly, the elders and I have prayerfully undertaken the following difficult steps to ensure the stability of the church and protect the future of the CCDC. These measure have been communicated to CCDC employees as of this morning:

  • The CCDC Daycare and Preschool programs remain closed and will have an official end date of May 15 for the 2019–2020 school year. Employees will receive their normal compensation up to and until May 15, 2020.
  • Effective May 15, 2020, the vast majority of CCDC employees will be furloughed until further notice. We will retain a few essential employees in order to manage the day to day operations and prepare for reopening. We are actively monitoring the ever-changing situation and will reevaluate the furlough throughout the coming weeks and months should circumstances change.
  • The CCDC will reopen for the next school year on a date yet to be determined. When the CCDC reopens for the 2020–2021 school year, changes to programming and/or new protocols may be necessary in order for the CCDC to continue to provide a safe, healthy, and State-compliant facility. Should changes occur, we will communicate them to you in a timely manner.

This has been a very difficult decision as we greatly value our CCDC staff, and I know many of them on a personal basis. We have worked to avoid taking this action as long as possible. We are thankful to the Lord for allowing us to maintain uninterrupted employment for CCDC staff for what will be two months with very little revenue by the time the furloughs occur.

As a reminder, if you have set up recurring online payments, you will need to login to Headmaster to stop those payments. If you have questions or concerns, contact Lori Koppelmann (lkoppelmann@calvarycdc.com or 704.408.5774) or Laura Schlesing(lschlesing@calvarycdc.com or 704.351.1249).

We will continue to communicate with you regularly during this period. Once the Stay-at-Home order is lifted, we will provide times for you to retrieve any personal items at the church.

We have confidence that the Lord’s sovereign plans for our lives are perfect for those who are called according to His purposes. I pray that His grace would rest upon each of you in the weeks and months ahead.

Do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions.

Warmly in Christ,

John H. Munro
